Easter

We all look at holidays in different ways, and as Easter snuck up, too came the Spring time flowers and the sun and breezes that we all crave.

Hours spent at Baker and Hickman's Department Store in Madisonville, Kentucky. Nannie at the helm in search of Easter dresses and something plaid with a bow tie for me. Unimpressed by the clothes, I terrorized the poor manikins in that downtown store - shaking their hands until the arms fell off. A familiar place that has been closed for many years.

A ham on a big table, deviled eggs, cornbread, don't they all sound like part of an Easter spread? Sometimes we would go out to Pennyrile and enjoy lunch surrounded by so many people we knew. People that just left churches all over Dawson Springs; corsages and canes in tow.

I am reminded of hunting eggs and waking up to Easter baskets filled with treats. All to soon watching these same events take place for my niece and nephew, Cole and Sloane. History always repeats itself and no matter how long it does, it will never change the reasons why we observe Easter.

I have talked a lot about love this week in my blogs and I guess that is altogether fitting and proper to end this week with this more love. I don't have to retell the story of Easter, I might not get it perfect. I will just use two words: Selfless (and) Love. Thank you.

And while that can be read as a prayer, I blink and go back to Baker and Hickman's, Kool Cigarettes and Juicy Fruit Gum, names like "Shug" and "Something Else," Easter Lilies and Easter Bunny's. A southern church filled with people standing, all there to hear what they already knew. I thank them too.

What wonderful memories and I am always so thankful for those as well. All in all I'm blessed and I know that. Today I hope your blessed to by the spirit of this Spring season, by your family, by your friends, and by the selfless love that brought this holiday to us in the first place.
